10Mb Leased Lines – Who needs them?

10Mb Leased Lines – Who needs them?

You have decided to get a dedicated 10Mb leased line and gather some quotes together? Brilliant! But how do you know what speed you need for your Ethernet circuits? We speak to many business owners who don’t have a full understanding of what they need or how much broadband downtime is costing them.

Our most popular request for a comparison is for a 100Mb Leased Line, however leased lines range from 10Mb to 10Gb & all businesses will need a different bandwidth. Some providers would be happy selling small businesses leased line connections that are not cost effective. However, we are here to help save money for UK businesses & help everyone get the best value data network for their business.

Technology has become one of the most important factors for most businesses. It helps them stay ahead of the competition and innovate their industry & shows no signs of slowing down. In our own lives we rely more on connections through a screen & everything seems to be based in the cloud so the speed of internet access we need to function is only set to increase.

So, today we are going to explore who would need 10Mb Leased Line and how you can work out your bandwidth requirements.

Does your business need 10Mb Leased Line?

The first things you have to think about are what your business uses the internet for & your future proofing needs. How data heavy is your business use? Do you do a lot of uploading and downloading? Perhaps you have a phone system that runs on the internet?

Generally speaking graphic designers, for example, are an industry that use a particularly large amount of bandwidth. This is mainly due to the fact they have to upload a lot of high definition files & use internet based applications. This means they will likely need symmetrical upload and download speeds.

Fibre Ethernet is a business grade internet connection that gives you symmetrical speeds & is dedicated and used only by your business. Whereas smaller companies that only use the internet for general browsing and e-mails are more likely to need business broadband or a lower bandwidth leased line, like a 10Mb.

Another thing to consider is how many users you have on at each time. An office of 10 will need far less bandwidth than an office of 100. What do those users do on the internet? Do you use VoIP phones or web based applications like office 365? These will all have a big impact on understanding what your connectivity needs are & can help ensure you don’t pay over the odds.

A great indicator of what speed you need is knowing what you are currently using. Many providers will be able to give you a free bandwidth monitoring tool. First point of contact would be to get that installed, at least for a few weeks. If that tells you your business uses say 23Mb average you know its probably worth getting a quote on say 30Mb and 40Mb rather than 100Mb Leased Line.

There are also a lot of bandwidth calculators to help you on-line – google has one built in if you search bandwidth calculator. When you know what your speed is currently you should have a good idea of what options to get quotes for. If you are struggling providers will all be able to help you so don’t panic.

Many business Internet providers will also provide you with bandwidth reports if you ask. This will show you how much you receive and can also come with fluctuation reports.

The best deal on 10Mb Leased Line

First check if there are any schemes or vouchers that you could qualify for. The government often runs incentives like the gigabit voucher scheme. This gives qualifying UK businesses up to £3000 off of install if installing gigabit capable connections.

Secondly, find out if any providers have special deals in your area. A good example of this is Virgin Media’s deal of 30Mb for £149 per month in selected areas. This would save hundreds if not thousands over the 3 or 5 year contract term. So well worth looking at.

Thirdly, don’t just look at the big providers. Its really easy to pick BT, TalkTalk & Virgin for a quote but smaller providers like Aspire, Vaioni & Zen will often beat them on price, as well as offering higher rated customer service.
